Book Chat – Maneater by Mary B. Morrison & Noire

maneaterHey all! It’s time to discuss our JULY BOM selection, Maneater by Mary B. Morrison & Noire.  Unfortunately, they were not able to join us, but we can still get our chat on, right?

From the messages posted in the group so far, I’m sure we’ll still have a lively discussion.  So, let’s get it going.

I’ll let one of the hostesses for the month post the discussion questions, but I wanted to ask a few to get things rolling.

1.  Maneater was basically two novellas in one book.  Do you like novellas & short stories?  Why or why not?

2. Would you have preferred a collaboration instead of individual stories?  Why?

3. How many maneaters do you know? LOL

Comments

  1. Sharon says:

Yes I like them novellas because sometimes I just want to read something short and sweet that’s gets to the point.

I preferred the individual stories because each author has their unique style of writing. Noire is raw, edgy, and unpredictable and MBM is raw and predictable…but in a good way…LOL

  2. Torrie says:

I do enjoy novellas and short stories, like sharon stated sometimes you just want something short and juicy not drawn out sometimes. Now if they were to do a collaboration I would read that as well, I think they are very talented author’s.

Now I don’t know any Maneater’s, but I know a few who try to be. Yet when they meet a super sweet guy they turn to butter on the bread, just whipped and laid flat out. Lol

  3. Lenita says:

Yes, I enjoy novellas and find that they prompt me to read more because I’m eager to finish to get to the next one.

I think a collaboration will be nice in the future but I noticed the difference in styles, in my opinion Morrison had a more raw approach.

I know two and for the record both wish they were married with kids. LOL!

  4. Tee C. Royal says:

I don’t really care for short stories or novellas, but if I had to choose, I’d go with the novella over the short stories. The ones I’ve read always leave too many questions at the end vs a novel where there’s enough time to close all loose ends.

I would’ve preferred a collaboration simply because I like to see two authors work together on books. The whole process of who does what is fascinating to me.

  5. Toni says:

I enjoy novellas as a quick read, after church on Sunday and or when I finish a novel late at night and don’t want to start a new novel.

Collaborations, have me trying to figure out who wrote what. Especially when I’ve read other novels by the authors.

  6. Mary says:

I really enjoyed both stories. I like the whole novella thing for summer reading. Mary B just tells it like it is, don’t she? Sis pulls no punches. I have never read anything by Noire so it was a nice surprise. I know some maneaters honey and I surely ain’t mad at them! I’m a retired maneater myself. A sista just gets tired after a while. LOL

  7. Hope says:

I prefer to read a full-fledged novel rather than a novella. Just when I start really getting into the story, it’s over!

I think I would have preferred a collaboration just to see how the two authors would blend their own, unique writing styles.

I actually don’t know any maneaters. Check back with me about womeneaters…I know plenty of them.
