Murder on the Down Low Blog Tour

Meet Pamela Samuels Young, author of Murder on the Down Low

pamelasamuelsyoungPamela Samuels Young is a practicing attorney and author of the legal thrillers, Murder on the Down Low, In Firm Pursuit, Every Reasonable Doubt, and the forthcoming, Buying Time, A desire to see women and people of color represented in today’s legal fiction prompted Pamela to start writing despite a busy career as an attorney.  The former journalist and Compton native is a graduate of USC, Northwestern University and UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.  Pamela is the fiction writing expert for BizyMoms.com and is on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Chapter of Mystery Writers of America.

Would you say you are an extrovert or introvert?

Depends on the situation.  If I’m at a party where I don’t know anyone, I’m an introvert. If I’m in a setting where I get to talk about writing or my books, I’m a big-time extrovert!

Do you like to cook? If so, what are your favorite dishes to cook?

I’m a decent cook, but I have so many balls in the air, that I don’t spend much time doing  it.  (In the last month, I’ve probably prepared dinner four times.)  I like preparing dishes that don’t require spending a lot of time in the kitchen.  For that reason, I love cooking tacos.  They’re cheap, fast and one of the few dishes that my family will eat without making jokes.

What movie(s) have you watched recently that you would recommend?

Unfortunately, I’m too busy writing to see many movies. Of the few that I’ve had a chance to see, without question, Taken, starring Liam Neeson, was my favorite.  It was filled with drama and suspense from the opening scene to the closing one.

Do you like books being turned into a movie? If so, what is your favorite book-to-movie?

Most movies don’t do books the justice they deserve.  Can’t say I have a favorite.

If Murder on the Down Low was turned into a movie who would you cast to play your characters?

I’d like Sinaa Lathan or Vivica Fox to play Vernetta; Mo’nique or Queen Latifah to play Nichelle; Angela Bassett would make a great Jacee; and Jada Pinkett Smith or Taraji P. Henson could easily do justice to the Special character.  I think LL Cool J would make a great Jefferson and Morris Chestnut could easily pull off Eugene.

Which social networks do you enjoy the most?

My favorites are Shelfari and Facebook.  I just wish I had more time to spend on them.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently working on my fifth novel, Attorney-Client Privilege. It’s the fourth novel in my Vernetta Henderson series. In Attorney-Client Privilege, Vernetta litigates a gender discrimination lawsuit. Her opponent—a rather unscrupulous, female dynamo—will do anything to win because if she doesn’t, it could mean the collapse of a multi-million dollar corporation.

ABOUT THE BOOK

murderondownlowA high-profile lawsuit erupts into chaos, revealing its place in a larger spree of violence in this scandalous tale of lust, lies, and vengeance. A brazen gunman is targeting prominent African American men on the streets of Los Angeles, and police are completely baffled. At the same time, savvy big-firm attorney Vernetta Henderson and her outrageous sidekick, Special, lead the charge for revenge against a man whose deceit caused his fiancée’s death.

For Special, hauling the man into court and suing him for wrongful death just isn’t good enough. While she exacts her own brand of justice, a shocking revelation connects the contentious lawsuit and the puzzling murders.

Hello Pamela Samuels Young. I just finished this about a month ago. EXCELLENT story and hard to put down. There was a lot going on with each character but all related to the main story. Sometimes there is so much going on with all of the characters that as a reader, you sometimes get a little lost. Not here…very well done. I definalely look forward to your next book.
