Let me tell you that I’ve been waiting all summer for the next installment of the Nappily series. Venus is a charachter that I truly enjoy reading about, she seems to always find something to get in and out of. I’ve read all so far in the series, my favorite in the series is Would I Lie to You. Venus had some issues that she had to work through in order to get to the next scenario. After cutting her relaxed hair to go natural and breaking up with her former boyfriend after years of being together becuase he wouldn’t propose she struggles with the fact that she doesn’t love he current boyfriend, Airic. She’s not able to set a wedding date after being with him for 2 years, sounds familiar? Yes she cared for him but that wasn’t enough when you’re comitting to spending your life with someone. She stayed with him because she felt she owed him for being there when she broke up with Clint (who ended up marrying someone else after their breakup). When she meest Jake during a job related visit to Los Angeles, that just made her think about it even the more and untimately lie to herself and both, Jake and Airic. To add to the drama her ex, Clint, makes an appearance and makes her think about the breakup they endured. She soon realizes it’s Jake that she loves while she’s dealing with an unexpected pregnancy by Airic, she’s able to let Airic know her true feelings and keep Clint in the past where he belongs. Venus finally tells Jake her true feelings, they marry and she get’s what she’s been wanting for a while; marriage, family and the happily ever after or so she thinks….

I have enjoyed all of Trisha R. Thomas’ novels, but the Nappily series are wonderful. I love the main character Venus. She is versatile and quite resilent. Life throws her many curve balls, she gets hit, she misses, she dodges, and she catches and the many issues/situations in her life. She doesn’t follow the crowd, but shines through it. She continues to search for love or it looks for her through the books and when she finally finds and gets with Jake who is a strong man, she marries him and feels she has the perfect life and marriage ( hubby, baby, house, job, etc.). Of course life surprises her and she deals with the antics of her baby’s daddy with the love and support of her husband while continuing to live, love, and laugh.

  6. Brandy L. Mays says:

It has been awhile since I first read the Nappily series. I remember reading the first book and loving Venus. She was such a fun character to get know. I really related to her struggle with her self image and hair issues. Its been awhile like I said so I would have to re read the books to refresh myself for this new one. Knowing that the first book helped Halle Berry get through her difficult divorce from DJ really made me appreciate reading the book! I am looking forward to the movie.

  7. Wana says:

I read Nappily Ever After years ago but can’t remember it much. I knew there were others and most are on my TBR list but I haven’t yet. The last book I read was New Decorating Book by Better Homes and Gardens. Yes I actually read a decorating book instead of just looking at the pictures. I’m in the decorating mood and realized I have no idea what my style is and I only had vague ideas of balance and all that stuff. It was a pretty good book and gave me a lot of ideas to get started. It’s also a great book to keep around. I highly recommend it.

I’m also reading Columbine, which is another good book. I knew of the school shooting but I don’t recall all the aftermath, so I find it enlightening.

  8. Joyce Dickerson says:

I am waiting for Nappily Ever After,,, In the meantime I just finished “Love Trumps Game’ by D Y Phillips aka Debra Phillips which was an awesome read: Hattie Sims had actually lived her life and was enjoying her years, but having to deal with Topps Jackson who was the father of her grands who also was a drug dealer and the boyfriend of her daughter Neema who would not listen to her mother when she tried to explain Topps was no good, Hattie was determined not to let him take over her grands and when Neema disappeared she stood up to Topps and she put her life asside and began to run after running for so long she decided to stand up to Topps and that is the intriquing part showing the way her life revolved around taking care of those kids and how she handled it.

  9. Kidada says:

My favorite one in the series was the first one, “Nappily Ever After”. The title was catchy and I thought it was a story a lot of women could relate too. It has been a few years since I read it but I remember some parts vividly. I love how Venus flipped the script and moved out West [ I think]. She also cut her hair which made me wonder if that was inspired from “Waiting to Exhale”. Halle Berry was actually producing and starring in the movie before she had her daughter Nahla. Now that she has cut her hair I wonder how long we will wait to see it hit the big screen! Hopefully they do not stray too far away from the story : )
