Paradise – The Angelic Upstarts by Eric Chapman is a reconstructed historical account of events ranging from the early 1990’s to 2007. The story is primarily rooted around a brazen young organization and a revolutionary societal upheaval both doggedly determined to positively change the condition of African-Americans. The initial installment of a three-part narrative, the Angelic Upstarts chronicles the tumultuous and often emotionally charged personal, organizational and national trials of a new African-American social structure as they struggle to repair and improve both themselves and a morally corrupt world while finally attaining what they regard as their long awaited “freedom.â€
“It was held in the strictest of confidences and destined to be one of the ultimate achievements in this century—a city set apart from others geographically, socially and spiritually—a city of incomparable technology and enchantment—a city that renews and fortifies the belief in self. Close your eyes brother and imagine a place that sings the praises of the eradication of fear, hatred and jealousy. Now open them and see what I see. Some still call it impossible; we just call it home.”
If you had the power to change the rules, alter the landscape of everyday life, and switch the primary players, how would you go about it? One organization actualized a solution to these intricate and complex goals and set in motion an extraordinary response to the inequities of society. But even with the hope promised from such a phenomenal change, would the rest of Black America support or reject this solution? More importantly, would these changes be the catalyst that finally causes a fatal racial rupture in America?
