She works with several major authors, and book stores creating unique gift-marks, book thongs and creative displays promoting literary.

She loves working at book events and book festivals, meeting authors, readers and book clubs.

INTERVIEW

RAW: Debra, it is so wonderful to see someone take a love for something and turn it into more than just a hobby. What was your process and was it an easy move for you?
The process was as easy as breathing for me. I’m a hairstylist and one year for Christmas, I decided to make bookmarks for all of my clients as gifts, I’ve always loved to make things, and we all are readers. Almost 2 years later, Christmas again, I looked over at the dryer and noticed that they were still using them and they where in perfect condition. My clients asked me to make some for various people and occasions, and encouraged me to look into selling them to stores. Also, one of my clients is author Marcia King-Gamble, and she ask me to create some custom bookmarks for giveaways and promotions.
Â
RAW: Tell us more about Simply Said. I love the business name!
“Simply Said” I have collected quotes, listened to my Mom’s quips, and heard folks say some of the most profound, funny, and odd things, that were so Simply Said, yet made an impact. I never knew why I would write them down and hold on to them but I’m really glad I did. I created a full line of pre-made bookmarks that have these quotes and sayings. I believe it was my destiny, of sorts! I also work with many best selling authors, creating custom bookmarks, book thongs, book plates and note cards.

RAW:Â Out of all the items you’ve made for readers, writers, family & friends, which two items were your favorite and why?
It’s so hard to choose only two, so I’ll choose two categories! The bookmarks are my first love. I so love when people find a bookmark that truly speak to them. I’ve seen people brought to tears reading them. I have reached the heart, and sometimes gave them the words they could not find. Or made them laugh out loud!

The Book Thong is my second love. Just the look on peoples faces when I ask “Wanna See My Thong”? is priceless! The Book Thong is jewelry for the book lover. Years ago I made costume jewelry, so it was a natural extension for me to create a jeweled bookmark that was pretty and girlie, with a provocative name.

RAW: As an avid reader, I must ask…what’s on your nightstand now? And, what’s been the best book you’ve read this year?
Just getting back from Book Expo America, there are several titles that I want to read right away. Carlen Brice’s newest release Children of the water and Pat G’Orge Walker’s, Somebody’s Sinning In My Bed, Lutishia Lovely’s, Heaven Right Here, Rochelle Alers’ , Man Of Fate and my favorite romance author Donna Hill’s, re-release of A Private Affair. These are the top of the TBR stack!

RAW: Lastly, share with us the one thing you love most about what you do.
The most fun for me is actually creating and finishing the project. I love creating what I see in my head translated into a finished product. When an author gives me a theme and tells me to do my thing, I feel like they truly consider me a professional and an expert in what I do. I love “nailing” the concept they what to achieve.
